I have been doing mapping and research work specialising in the underwater environment for ten years, since 2014. At the end of 2015 I graduated from the scientific diving course at Länsi-Uusimaa Adult Education Centre and I hold the Advanced European Scientific Diver (AESD) certificate. Since then I have worked as a scientific diver, my main employer being Alleco Oy, but I have also worked for Åbo Akademi and my own company. In 2020, I graduated with a Master’s degree from the University of Helsinki, majoring in marine biology. I did my Pro Gradu in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute, under the supervision of Joost den Haan.

I have experience in mapping endangered species in different parts of Finland. I am familiar with the following species and their mapping methods:

  • freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera)
  • sea beetle (Macroplea pubipennis)
  • Najas tenuissima, Najas flexilis
  • the marsh frog (Rana arvalis)
  • thick shelled river mussel (Unio crassus)

In addition, I have carried out vegetation surveys using the main vegetation zone transect method in both southern and northern Finland. I have carried out scuba diving vegetation transects in accordance with the VELMU and WFD methods in the Gulf of Finland, the Archipelago Sea, Åland, Bothnian Sea and the Bothnian Sea. I have carried out underwater sampling on both hard and soft bottoms and set up underwater experimental setups. I also have experience in mapping herring spawning areas and underwater photography. I have good boating skills, know the basic rules of navigation and have a VHF radio licence.
