I’m a 38-year-old Helsinki-based scientific diver, biologist, sound designer, yoga instructor, urban culture and environmental activist, and an incurable world healer. So I am also a candidate for the Green Party in the 2025 municipal elections.
In local politics I will:
- Protect Helsinki’s natural environment
- Diversify opportunities for local culture, find spaces for activism and grassroots and DIY makers, and bring in the cultural perspective as a holistic starting point for urban development.
- Strengthen democracy and participation in decision-making in Helsinki
- Promote local services and vibrant neighbourhoods
In my work in the environmental sector and as a sound designer/engineer, I have had the opportunity to see Finland and the world from many different perspectives. I am grateful for Finland’s beautiful nature and for people who value honesty, are friendly and helpful and are ready to meet others as equals, at least on the sauna benches. Basically, people everywhere are the same and equal, pieces of nature made of the same materials and in need of the same love.
For me, values such as honesty and openness, freedom, civility, equality, community and empathy are important. I believe that people of all kinds can meet and find a respectful common language if the aim is genuinely cooperation rather than competition – although that can sometimes provide the right spark. I have found that in principle it often helps to shut your mouth, listen to others and be compassionate.
My one-woman business, Sysivesi Ltd, operates in all my fields. You can hire me to do surveys of endangered species in aquatic environments, mix a live music gig, design and implement a custom soundscape for your space, lead a yoga class or organise an event. My studio is located in Lapinlahti, Helsinki, where I am also actively involved in the Lapinlahti community, for example by organising events and being part of the steering group of the Lapinlahti community and the board of Osuuskunta Tilajakamo, which rents the premises. I am also involved in other association activities, such as the Helsinki Science and Technology Greens (HelViite) Association, the Micro- and Sole Entrepreneurs Association and the Finnish League for Nature Conservation. I believe that associations are a wonderful feature and resource in Finnish society. I spend a lot of my free time reading, walking, cycling, sailing in the open air, playing the tenor saxophone or painting.
